Does the world need another podcast?

It all begins with an idea.

ESG and Coffee Podcast meets the unmet need for new voices speaking frankly on the realities of making sustainable investment happen at the intersection of investment, strategy and sustainability. ESG and Coffee Podcast is for suits and redditors, for  institutional investors, asset allocators, wealth managers, investment advisors, and financial planners.  We’re here for institutional investors as well as the citizen investor. We’re all part of the same investment ecosystem.

Investment decisions are made staring into an uncertain future. The professional investment industry stewards US$89 trillion in assets under management. Analysts make choices today by pulling back from the future how portfolio companies and their securities will perform against peers. Over 630,000 company securities are listed on more than 250 exchanges $95 trillion equity market capitalisation, with thousands more in private markets. We’ll move our community of listeners (both suits and redditors) up the learning curve by unpacking the latest research and the hard-won experience of our guests.

There’s a gap in investment markets that needs filling to upgrade investment practice in 21st century markets. I’m a big fan of podcasts and other media, ways to share learning and experience, to grow the knowledge base for better investment. Other podcasts are great at investment or sustainability, but there’s a gap for open, informed and intelligent conversations about ESG. A podcast that investigates new research from both sides, sidesteps the greenwashing spin, and offers new insights with actionable analysis from interviews with leaders in the ESG field. You will get smarter on the philosophies, processes and people making ESG happen in investment markets around the world.

ESG and Coffee Podcast will be interviewing leading voices accelerating markets toward a future where investment practitioners proactively integrate ALL factors - including environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors - into every investing decision. Investing with ESG+ has seen a dramatic rise in the past decade. 2020 saw the largest annual inflows EVER to ESG-branded portfolios in the world’s largest investment market, reaching US$51.1 billion

ESG and Coffee Podcast unpacks the most significant upgrade to investing practice in a generation, through the eyes of the humans who are making it happen. ESG matters not only to asset managers and investment advisors. The C-suite is increasingly expected to identify, measure, and report material ESG risks, opportunities and impacts on their company investor calls. In every asset class. Sustainability is the meta-theme that throws shade on all other strategies on one planet with 9 billion+ humans who exponentially pollute with carbon and pollution.

Our interviews explore the “who, what and how” inviting you to meet the humans who are making ESG happen in different ways around the world. We will investigate the technical and invite the personal. We interview zero algorithms, only humans. With a little wit, some serendipity and a good dose of calling BS on investment-as-usual, we’ll help move our community of listeners up the learning curve by unpacking the latest research and the hard-won experience of our guests. We will unpack what went well, what blew up and where some luck saved the days.

Markets are at all time highs in 1H21. Many are predicting a pull back. Some expect it to be a dramatic drop. Trillions are traded daily in markets across the world. Meanwhile, the reality is all business relies upon Nature and the societies of humans who make/buy/move stuff. Societies demand more from companies, and nature’s biodiversity is being overwhelmed by humans blowing through planetary boundaries.

ESG and Coffee Podcast is here to share investment philosophies, investing strategies, epic fails, new research, and look behind the scene. In season 1, we’ll be speaking with many of the originals, the humans who have been experimenting in making ESG happen for more than a decade, not those who picked up talking points in 2020.

Ideas drive investments. Coffee has been central to the spread of ideas (thanks Ethiopia!). ESG and Coffee Podcast will publish fortnightly hosted by the ESG architect, Graham Sinclair, mostly from the North Atlantic coast, for the world. Season 1 launches in mid-2021. Prepare your biggest cup of your finest coffee (artisanal, fair trade, organic and shade-grown), and please join us.

You’ll be so glad you did.
