Episode S1E0: Introducing ESG and Coffee Podcast

ESG and Coffee Podcast is a new interview-based podcast on investing, strategy and sustainability examining the “how” and future of ESG. Hosted by Graham Sinclair (@esgarchitect) and produced by Kat Farquharson (@katfarquharson).

ESG and Coffee Podcast is longer than a tweet and shorter than a book.

Our long form interviews of leading voices in the investment value chain will offer guests the time to share insight and nuance. There are other podcasts for sound bites and spin.

We’re here to talk frankly about novel investment theses, good and bad ideas, numbers and narratives, epic fails, as well as the threat of greenwashing and what Greta Thunberg calls “blah blah blah”. With a little wit, some serendipity and a good dose of calling BS on investment-as-usual. We will interview zero algorithms, only humans. ESG matters not only to asset managers and investment advisors but to every organization looking for finance or investment, from governments to head offices to small businesses on Main St.

ESG and Coffee Podcast unpacks the most significant upgrade to investing practice in a generation, through the eyes of the humans who are making it happen, from every asset class, around the world.

Why coffee? Ideas drive investments. Coffee has been central to the spread of ideas for centuries (thanks Ethiopia!) in cafes from Istanbul to The City, Wall St to Seattle, Cape Town to the Bund. We will need all the superb coffee we can find to fuel ideas for ESG innovations in investment on our watch.

Thank you to all the friends who have helped on the journey.

ESG and Coffee Podcast may be the slowest podcast to exit R&D; it’s been “in development” since August 2015!

In Season 1, we’re meeting “The Originals” who have been influencing and executing investment for more than the last bonus cycle… Our interviews include one of the most rare humans (a not white old man running an investment firm for a decade), a money manager who made 114% return in a year, a woman who’s changed the conversation on inclusion in investment, the person who’s salty takes on ESG are Twitter’s fiercest reality checks, and a global healthcare investor whose after hours performing arts makes the case for sustainability. There’s more...

Thanks for listening.
