Episode S1E4: Interview of Geeta Aiyer, President and Founder of Boston Common Asset Management, Portfolio Manager of US Large Cap Value Fund, 2021. Photocredit: ESG and Coffee Podcast, August 2021.
Our investor guest in S1E4 is Geeta Aiyer, President and Founder of Boston Common Asset Management. Geeta not only leads the shop she founded in 2002, she’s also Portfolio Manager of US Large Cap Value Fund. In 2021, Geeta speaks of the challenge facing all investors, and not being afraid to be irreverent, and using her smaller shop with $4 billion AuM to catalyze all investors. Her introduction to the world of ESG came in the 1980s doing work on South Africa apartheid issue divestment from the USA, having been a strictly “tools and mechanics” type investor practitioner up until then. Geeta talks of investing for the long term, and cautions that much of the talk about ESG may not be enough because we have blown past planetary boundaries, that we’ve gone past the points of sustainable investing and need investing for resilience. Her active and engaged investing method she experimented with at BCAM has earned her the Joan Bavaria Award in 2015, and a significant investment from Affiliated Managers Group in 2021. Her shop remains one of the few women-owned, minority-owned in the world. We may have nudged her to be included on the Harvard Management Company stakeholder panel..?!
